Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1950s American civic and documentary needs as a street-level establishing shot of the White House north facade with period traffic and tourists, suitable for postwar Washington or U.S. presidential history segments.

Period detail

Early-1950s American automobiles, including what appears to be a yellow taxi, are visible in the foreground; summer foliage and tourist clothing in the background are consistent with the 1952 metadata.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from the public sidewalk by a tourist on a Washington DC visit — a candid, street-level perspective that gives the famous landmark human scale and ambient period context.

What appears in frame

White House neoclassical facade with columns and triangular pediment, tall central fountain jets, iron perimeter fence, early-1950s dark sedans, a yellow taxi, manicured lawn, green flanking trees, and tourist groups near the fence.

Film character

Warm 8mm color with visible grain, mild exposure variation between frames, and slight vignetting at the left edges — characteristic of amateur handheld stock from the early 1950s.

Edit role

Functions as an establishing or transitional insert in documentaries on postwar Washington, mid-century American civic life, or presidential history segments requiring period street-level atmosphere.

Historical context

The visible north fountains and open street-side automobile traffic reflect the White House as an accessible public tourist landmark in early postwar America, before later security restrictions tightened the perimeter.

Research note

Adults appear as tourists in a public landmark setting; individual faces are not clearly identifiable at this resolution, but standard likeness review is advised; the building is public property with no architectural copyright concern.
