Your documentary has a story. What pictures will tell it?
Describe the historical scenes you need. Find potential footage, understand its limits, and identify what to research next.
Results are organized by visual need, not as one undifferentiated grid, because "we have something like this" and "we have the thing you asked for" are different answers. Every candidate says what it could help show and what it does not establish.
This is a first-pass search of Stockfilm's searchable collection, not an exhaustive search of all archival sources.
I am developing a documentary about a family's memories of summers around Rockaways' Playland in the late 1960s. I need to establish the park, show the surrounding boardwalk, and find footage of the actual family themselves.
Illustrative project brief, not a real commissioned production.
Press Try an example above to load it. It runs the same pipeline as any other brief, against the live catalog, so what you see is whatever the records actually support today.
It searches Stockfilm's own catalog of restored 8mm and Super 8 home movie clips. It is a first-pass search of one collection, not a search of every archive, and a zero-result answer is never evidence that no footage of a subject exists anywhere.
No. It never scores a film, rates its merit or commercial potential, or reports a percentage of completion. It reports what this collection could help you show, what would only provide context, and what still needs research.
No. Candidates are offered on catalog records. Dates and places are catalog estimates unless a record says otherwise, nobody in the footage is identified, and a clip-to-reel link is a candidate catalog match rather than a digitization record. Matching era or geography does not establish identity.
No. The brief is analyzed in memory and discarded. It is not written to search history, autocomplete, analytics, or a shareable report link, and reloading the page clears the result. Asking for a human review is the only action that turns the brief into a stored contact message, and only after you confirm it.
