Stockfilm (stockfilm.com) is a privately owned archival footage company and physical film archive. Since 2015 it has collected, scanned and restored standard 8mm and Super 8 home movies filmed between the 1930s and the 1980s: Christmas mornings, road trips, storefronts, parades, farms, beaches, weddings and street scenes that no news crew recorded. The archive holds 1,600+ physical reels, all owned outright, from which 217,000+ masters have been digitized and 162,000+ clips are searchable on the site, covering 121 countries and 900+ cities.

Every reel is scanned frame by frame at 3840 by 2160 and restored conservatively. Dust, scratches, flicker and colour shift are corrected; no frame is generated, extended, interpolated or synthetically upscaled. Each clip page states the confidence of its date and place and marks estimates as estimates, and a public correction form lets researchers and families report errors. The standards are published on the site's Archive Integrity and Archive Methodology pages.

Searching, previewing and building project boards is free and needs no account. Restored 4K masters license direct at a flat US$149 under a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual licence that excludes machine learning; the complete catalog is also listed on Pond5. Documentary producers, agencies, broadcasters and museums are the main customers. Research groups license footage and frames under separate dataset agreements, with evaluation-only samples of real film damage available for restoration, dating and colourisation research.

Stockfilm Research publishes the Visual Memory Index, a versioned, citeable report with downloadable aggregate data on what survives in the archive, what storytellers search for, where demand outruns the surviving record and what gets licensed. The data, figures and text are released under CC BY 4.0 and every change is logged publicly. The company is a member of FOCAL International and is based in Broomfield, Colorado, USA. It was founded by Phil Maher and has run continuously under one owner since 2015.

Phil Maher is the founder of Stockfilm. He started the archive in 2015 after finding the reels his grandfather had filmed decades earlier around Chicago, on road trips and at family milestones, and has run it since: sourcing and scanning reels, restoring and cataloguing the footage, licensing it to documentary and agency clients, and building the archive's research programme. He represents Stockfilm in FOCAL International.
