Washington DC USA-1952: View Of The Main Entrance To The White House In

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves documentary and educational requests for mid-century Washington DC landmark footage, suited to Truman/Eisenhower-era political or American history productions.

Period detail

Early 1950s automobile styling, including low wide dark sedans and a transit bus in street traffic, is consistent with the stated 1952 date; full summer foliage suggests warm-weather filming.

Home-movie behavior

A stationary visitor's wide shot of a famous public landmark, capturing incidental street life and passing vehicles rather than a staged or guided composition.

What appears in frame

White House North Portico with Ionic columns, active North Fountain jets, mature deciduous trees, dark early-1950s sedans, a transit bus, pedestrian figures, ornate street lamps, and manicured lawn.

Film character

Warm, slightly saturated color in the opening frames shifts to a cooler softer exposure in later frames, with consistent grain throughout that gives the footage authentic mid-century archival texture.

Edit role

Functions as an establishing shot for Washington DC sequences, with moving street traffic providing natural on-screen motion for a landmark insert, cutaway, or memory beat.

Historical context

The North Facade and Pennsylvania Avenue streetscape may reflect the grounds shortly after the Truman-era White House renovation, though visual confirmation from this footage alone is not possible.

Research note

Pedestrian figures are visible throughout but too distant for identification; the White House exterior is a public government building, though consult your clearance team on any incidental vehicle or signage detail.
