Washington DC USA-1952: View Of White House With Water Fountain And Classic Cars

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills a 1950s Washington DC landmark slot for documentaries on postwar America, presidential history, or mid-century American tourism.

Period detail

Rounded early-1950s American sedans and a yellow taxi in the foreground are consistent with the stated 1952 date; a US flag flies above the North Portico in later frames.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a public sidewalk by a tourist, the camera holds on the North Portico in the steady-but-slightly-handheld way of an amateur documenting a vacation landmark.

What appears in frame

White House North Portico with columns and pediment, multi-jet fountain, mature deciduous trees, dark American sedans, a yellow taxi, iron perimeter fence, pedestrians near the fence, and an American flag.

Film character

Mild warm color shift, moderate grain, and slight sky overexposure give the footage the soft sun-bleached look characteristic of Kodachrome 8mm from the early 1950s.

Edit role

Works as an establishing insert or period cutaway in documentaries on postwar Washington DC, presidential history, or 1950s American civic life.

Historical context

The relaxed street-level tourist access visible along the fence perimeter reflects the less-fortified public approach to the White House that predated later decades of security hardening.

Research note

The White House is public property with no copyright concern; pedestrians visible in the foreground are identifiable at some distance — likeness review is advised for any close editorial use.
