Stockfilm Vintage Documentary Grant

$1,000 in funding and footage credits for independent documentary filmmakers

The Stockfilm Vintage Documentary Grant supports independent filmmakers who use archival home movie footage to tell compelling documentary stories. Twice a year, we award one filmmaker a combined package of cash funding and footage licensing credits to help bring their project to life with authentic vintage material.

What You Receive

$500 Cash Grant

Direct funding to support your production costs. Use it for editing, sound design, color grading, festival submissions, or any expense your project requires. No restrictions on how the cash is allocated.

$500 Footage Credits

Free licensing of Stockfilm archival clips for your documentary. Browse our archive of restored 8mm and Super 8 home movie footage and select the clips that fit your story. Credits apply to any clips in our catalog.

Industry Exposure

Recipients are featured on Stockfilm's blog, social media channels, and newsletter. We promote your project to our network of filmmakers, editors, and production professionals who work with archival footage.

Prepare a Project Description

Write a 1–2 page description of your documentary project, including the subject, approach, and how you plan to use archival home movie footage.

Write a Director's Statement

Include a brief director's statement (500 words maximum) explaining your personal connection to the project and your filmmaking background.

Provide a Sample Reel

Share a link to a sample reel or work-in-progress on Vimeo or YouTube. Private or unlisted links are accepted. This is optional for projects in early development.

Submit Your Application

Complete the application form below before the deadline. Spring deadline: April 30 | Fall deadline: October 31.

Who is eligible to apply?
The Stockfilm Vintage Documentary Grant is open to independent filmmakers worldwide, at any experience level. There are no age or nationality restrictions. Student filmmakers are especially encouraged to apply.
When are the application deadlines?
The grant operates on two annual cycles. The Spring deadline is April 30 and the Fall deadline is October 31. Applications received after a deadline will automatically roll into the next cycle.
Can I apply with a project already in progress?
Yes. Projects at any stage are eligible, from early development through post-production. Both in-progress and pre-production projects qualify.
Do I need to use Stockfilm footage in my project?
The $500 in footage credits are specifically for licensing Stockfilm archival clips. However, the $500 cash portion has no restrictions and can be used for any production costs.
When will I hear back after applying?
Grant recipients are announced within 6 weeks of each cycle's deadline. All applicants will receive a notification regardless of the outcome.
