Washington DC USA-1952: A View Of The White House In The United States With Many Classic Cars And Pedestrians

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fits Washington DC landmark briefs, 1950s American life documentaries, presidential history segments, and productions needing authentic color exterior footage of the White House from the early post-war era.

Period detail

Early-1950s domestic automobiles with rounded pontoon-style bodies visible along the street; North Lawn fountains and neoclassical North Portico appear consistent with the building's mid-century configuration.

Home-movie behavior

An unhurried tourist-perspective static shot captures the landmark as a visitor would frame a prized travel memory, with no evidence of a staged or professional production setup.

What appears in frame

White House North Portico with columns and pediment, North Lawn fountain jets, mature deciduous trees framing the view, classic American sedans along the street, pedestrians on sidewalk, American flag on roofline, street lamp posts, manicured lawn.

Film character

Color 8mm stock shows warm mid-century dye saturation, soft focus at medium distance, visible grain, a dark vertical splice line in the first two frames, and slightly uneven exposure typical of amateur handheld shooting.

Edit role

Serves as an establishing cutaway or period insert to anchor a documentary sequence in 1950s Washington DC; the slow passing traffic also supports a dissolve or memory-beat transition.

Historical context

Street-level automobile traffic and pedestrians filmed from a public vantage suggest open public access to the White House perimeter characteristic of the pre-1970s security configuration.

Research note

Filmed from a public street with no private interiors visible; pedestrians appear small and at distance; likeness review is still advisable for any close-cropped editorial use; the White House exterior is not subject to architectural copyright.
