Quebec Canada-1952: Blue And White Psychiatric Association Welcome Sign On A

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills 1950s professional conference and medical-history requests; the on-screen dated sign suits documentary inserts and educational productions covering postwar institutional or psychiatric history.

Period detail

The white placard with blue block lettering reading 'Psychiatric Association / MAY 12-16, 1952' is fully legible on-screen; partial figures in light coats appear at frame edges consistent with mid-century professional dress.

Home-movie behavior

An attendee appears to have filmed the welcome sign on arrival before panning to a nearby waterfront — a personal record of professional travel typical of 8mm documentation of work-related trips.

What appears in frame

White rectangular conference sign, blue block lettering, date text MAY 12-16 1952, dark structural vertical divider, partial adult figures in light clothing at frame edges, open coastal waterfront, small boats, dark building silhouettes.

Film character

8mm color stock showing visible dust specks on the sign surface, moderate grain throughout, and a warm-neutral palette in the sign frames that shifts to a cooler, underexposed blue-gray in the final waterfront cut.

Edit role

Works as a dated title-card insert establishing conference identity, or as a period cutaway in medical-history and institutional documentaries; the final waterfront frame offers a brief exterior transition shot.

Historical context

The American Psychiatric Association held annual meetings during the postwar decade; this footage may document their May 1952 gathering, but the specific host city visible in the sign requires archival cross-referencing to confirm.

Research note

The organizational name on the sign is a branded element requiring IP review; partial adult figures appear at frame edges with faces not clearly discernible — consult a rights specialist before editorial or commercial use.
