Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves documentary, educational, and commercial requests for mid-20th-century Washington DC establishing shots or American government landmark footage from the early 1950s.

Period detail

Early-1950s American automobiles parked along the fence line and a flying American flag above the North Portico suggest the circa 1952 date as labeled.

Home-movie behavior

Shot by a visitor panning through foreground tree branches, the clip captures the landmark as a personal travel record rather than a staged production.

What appears in frame

White House North Portico with classical columns, active north lawn fountains, large foreground tree trunk, parked early-1950s sedans, pedestrians near the fence, American flag on the roofline, and manicured lawn.

Film character

Mild color fading and soft grain typical of period 8mm color stock give the image a warm, desaturated patina consistent with several decades of emulsion aging.

Edit role

Functions as an establishing insert or archival cutaway in mid-century American history sequences, particularly segments covering postwar Washington DC or presidential history.

Historical context

The early-1950s automobiles and open pedestrian access along the north fence reflect visitor conditions predating the stricter security perimeter later placed around the White House grounds.

Research note

Pedestrians are visible at street level in early frames; editorial-use review is advised, and rights holders should assess whether any individuals are identifiable before commercial use.
