Forest Scenery With Autumn Trees And Sunset — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1979, this vintage home movie captures a serene forest landscape in Ithaca, New York. The footage features dense tree canopies with autumnal hues of purple, brown, and muted green, filmed from a moving perspective that creates a soft, dreamy blur. The final frame reveals a dramatic sunset with a glowing orange horizon against a deep purple sky, silhouetting the treeline. Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s archival requests needing Northeastern U.S. woodland scenery, seasonal atmosphere, or a brief nature transition from home-movie source footage.
Period detail: The 1979 date and Ithaca location are supported by metadata, while the visible frames show only trees, autumn color, and a sunset without identifiable landmarks.
Home-movie behavior: The clip carries an unstaged home-movie viewpoint, with soft handheld or moving-camera views of treetops and a brief sunset seen from outdoors.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include dense tree canopies, autumn foliage, wooded hillsides, pale blue sky, dark silhouetted treeline, and an orange sunset glow.
Film character: The 8mm image has visible grain, soft focus, color shift, uneven exposure, and frame-edge artifacts that read as physical-film archival texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a cutaway, seasonal insert, memory beat, or quiet transition into material about Ithaca, autumn, travel, or domestic 1970s footage.
Historical context: The footage offers visual context for late-1970s personal filming of natural scenery, emphasizing landscape observation rather than public events or identifiable people.
Research note: No people, faces, logos, or private property are visible, but users should still confirm copyright status and any collection-specific licensing limits.
Research search match: Likely search matches include 1979 Ithaca New York 8mm forest, 1970s autumn trees home movie, vintage woodland scenery, and Super 8 sunset treeline.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1979 Ithaca footage, then broader 1970s home-movie nature, autumn, and sunset scenes.
