Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1930s black-and-white 8mm lake-swimming footage suited to documentary inserts on Canadian leisure, family travel, summer recreation, or home-movie memory sequences.
Period detail: The footage may show late-1930s home-movie leisure through its black-and-white 8mm look, simple swimwear, open lake setting, and absence of modern shoreline details.
Home-movie behavior: A single adult man swims close to the camera and turns his head, giving the clip an unstaged family-film view of ordinary outdoor recreation.
What appears in frame: The frames show a swimmer's head and shoulders, rippled lake water, splashing arms, soft focus, black frame bars, and visible 8mm film grain.
Film character: Soft focus, moderate grain, uneven exposure, and contact-print framing give the clip a physical 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short cutaway, memory beat, or transition within sequences about lakeside vacations, swimming, summer travel, or prewar family life.
Historical context: The scene documents informal swimming in a natural lake setting, with social context limited to visible recreation rather than identifiable events or institutions.
Research note: One adult face is visible, so likeness review may be needed in addition to copyright and source-license checks; no logos, music, minors, or private property are evident.
Research search match: Useful for searches such as 1939 Canada lake swimming, black-and-white 8mm swimmer, Long Lake home movie, vintage water recreation, and 1930s summer leisure footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with nearby shots from the same reel, then with other 1939 Long Lake material, then with Canadian lake recreation or vintage swimming home movies.
