Catskill New York-1957: Two Women Sitting On Patio In Front Of House

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

This clip suits documentary or educational productions seeking authentic 1950s American domestic life, specifically women's social gatherings in upstate New York residential settings.

Period detail

The large-finned automobile in the background, aluminum lawn chairs with striped fabric, and women's dress styles are consistent with late-1950s American suburban life; metadata dates this to 1957.

Home-movie behavior

A family member filmed two women in easy, unguarded conversation, capturing genuine social interaction rather than posed portraiture.

What appears in frame

Two women in vintage striped lawn chairs, concrete patio, white-sided house with screen door, late-1950s blue automobile, small wire patio table, green garden hose draped over a chair, red flowering shrub.

Film character

Color 8mm stock renders the scene with warm saturation and mild grain; natural daylight produces soft but slightly overexposed highlights on the pale patio surface.

Edit role

Works as a contemplative insert or memory beat in a 1950s Americana or domestic history sequence; also suitable as a cutaway illustrating postwar suburban leisure.

Historical context

The scene reflects postwar American suburban leisure culture: outdoor patio furniture, the large family automobile, and women's daytime social visits were hallmarks of 1950s middle-class life.

Research note

Identifiable adult faces are visible; no talent releases accompany this home-movie footage, so likeness rights for commercial use require producer review; the residential property may also warrant consideration.
