Catskill New York-1957: Family Gathering Recorded On A Sunny Day With An Old

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fits requests for 1950s American domestic and suburban leisure; useful for documentary segments on postwar family life or mid-century everyday culture.

Period detail

White wrought-iron patio furniture, mid-century women's dress styles, and a partial view of what may be a late-1950s American automobile are consistent with the stated 1957 date.

Home-movie behavior

The camera moves between a candid shot of a woman reading alone and a wider view of the social group — an unposed family-member perspective on an ordinary summer afternoon.

What appears in frame

Concrete patio, white wrought-iron lounge chair, green and yellow metal patio chairs, three adult women, white metal table, flowering shrub, partial vintage automobile, and residential column.

Film character

Characteristic 8mm color rendition with warm, slightly faded tones, visible grain, and gentle lens softness typical of consumer-grade mid-century home movie cameras.

Edit role

Works as a quiet establishing insert or memory-beat cutaway in documentary sequences about 1950s American domestic life or postwar leisure culture.

Historical context

The outdoor furniture, clothing styles, and domestic setting reflect postwar American middle-class leisure culture; the Catskill region was a known summer destination in this era.
