Group Of Swimmers Competing In The Pool And Demonstrating — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1953, this vintage home movie captures a group of young swimmers competing in a pool. Swimmers in classic swimsuits and goggles perform freestyle strokes, creating splashes in the blue water. The footage shows multiple swimmers in action, with one individual prominently featured mid-stroke. The grainy, slightly faded color palette and film edges evoke a nostalgic, archival feel. This authentic 1950s recreational sports moment is ideal for documentaries, editorial content, or nostalgic projects.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1950s 8mm home-movie pool footage for edits needing youth swimming, recreation, or small-scale competitive sports in an archival setting.
Period detail: The clip may show mid-century swimwear, goggles, and outdoor pool activity consistent with the 1953 Yonkers metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The footage has an unstaged spectator feel, watching swimmers race, practice, and pause in the water from close poolside angles.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include blue pool water, multiple swimmers, swim caps or dark hair, goggles, splashing strokes, a pool ladder, and film-frame edges.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows blue-shifted color, soft focus, gate edges, dust marks, and uneven exposure that give the clip clear physical-film texture.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a brief insert, recreation cutaway, sports-memory beat, or transition into mid-century leisure and youth athletics.
Historical context: The scene reflects organized or informal pool recreation with young swimmers demonstrating strokes or competing, without enough detail to identify a team or event.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed separately from copyright status; no brands or private property are apparent in the frames.
Research search match: Useful searches include 1950s 8mm swimming pool, Yonkers youth swimmers, vintage freestyle race, home movie swim practice, and mid-century recreation footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then other 1953 Yonkers footage, then related pool, youth sports, recreation, and summer home-movie scenes.
