Washington DC USA-1952: The Front Entrance Of The White House Including The

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

A 5-second 8mm landmark shot dated 1952, well-suited to 1950s Washington DC sequences in documentaries, news retrospectives, or mid-century American history productions.

Period detail

Visitor-shot 8mm framing, active fountain jets, trimmed hedges, and small distant figures in period clothing are consistent with early-1950s public tourist access to the White House North Lawn.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from the public viewing position outside the North Lawn, this is a tourist's record of a landmark visit rather than any official or staged documentation.

What appears in frame

White House north portico with tall neoclassical columns, twin active fountain jets, manicured green lawn, yellow-orange flower border, rounded trimmed hedges, one or two small distant figures, and partial tree foliage at frame edges.

Film character

The 8mm stock renders the facade in cool, slightly desaturated tones with visible grain, soft focus across the columns, and dark sprocket-area borders that reinforce the period character.

Edit role

Works as an establishing shot or cutaway insert in mid-century Washington DC sequences, or as a nostalgia beat in documentary treatments of 1950s American public life.

Historical context

Public tourist access to the North Lawn fountain view was common in the early 1950s; the open grounds and active fountains reflect the pre-security-barrier era of White House public access.

Research note

The White House is a public landmark with no copyright in the structure itself; distant figures are unidentifiable but likeness review is advisable before broadcast or commercial use.
