Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Suitable for 1950s American history documentaries, Cold War-era civics segments, and editorial productions needing authenticated archival footage of the White House exterior.
Period detail: The North Lawn fountain configuration and the building's architectural state are consistent with early-1950s Washington DC; the desaturated blue-grey 8mm palette and frame-edge vignetting align with mid-century amateur film stock.
Home-movie behavior: Captured from the North Lawn public viewpoint at tourist distance, the framing reflects a visitor's instinct to document an iconic civic landmark as a personal travel keepsake.
What appears in frame: White House north facade, neoclassical columns, triangular pediment, active fountain jets, manicured lawn, overcast sky, mature trees at frame edge, and an American flag on the roofline flagpole.
Film character: Characteristic 8mm frame-edge vignetting, a desaturated blue-grey color shift across all four frames, and soft visible grain give the footage an authentic mid-century archival texture.
Edit role: Functions well as an establishing shot or period cutaway in documentaries covering 1950s American politics, Washington DC tourism, or Cold War domestic life.
Historical context: Washington DC was a popular tourist destination in the early 1950s, and the White House North Lawn's public accessibility made the exterior a common subject for visiting American families with home-movie cameras.
Research note: The White House is a public landmark with no copyright concern; one or more figures appear on the lawn and may require editorial-use confirmation; verify intended use with a qualified rights advisor.
Research search match: Researchers searching for 1950s Washington DC tourism footage, early Cold War White House exteriors, or mid-century 8mm American civic and government landmark home movies.
Archive pairing path: Best paired with other frames from this same reel, then with 1950s Washington DC landmark footage (Capitol, Mall, monuments), then with mid-century American civic or government home movies.
