Idaho USA-1955: A Nurse in a White Uniform and Red Cape Walks to a House

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fits documentary and educational requests about 1950s American healthcare, suburban domestic life, and women's professional roles in the mid-twentieth century.

Period detail

A white nurse's dress, matching cap, red cape, man's plaid shirt, and what appear to be 1950s-era automobiles parked on a tree-lined street all visually support the stated 1955 date.

Home-movie behavior

The clip records what appears to be a real or lightly staged home nursing visit, capturing the casual, personal quality of someone filming a significant domestic occasion.

What appears in frame

White nurse's uniform, red cape, nurse's cap, small bag, utility pole, bare deciduous trees, period vehicles on a residential street, ranch-style homes, and a man in a plaid shirt greeting the nurse at a front door.

Film character

Natural grain, a slight blue-purple color shift in shadowed areas, and warm sunlit tones give the footage the authentic aging texture of mid-century 8mm color reversal stock.

Edit role

Serves as an establishing shot, insert cutaway, or memory beat in documentaries covering 1950s healthcare, suburban domestic life, or mid-century American women's working roles.

Historical context

The white dress, red cape, and cap reflect standard mid-century visiting-nurse attire, for whom home calls were a routine part of American community and public health care delivery.

Research note

Adult faces are visible and individual identities cannot be confirmed from archival footage alone; vehicles on the street may carry brand markings; commercial use warrants additional clearance review.
