Man Raking Grass in Front of House with Vintage Car — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1947, this low-grade color home movie captures a man in a dark suit and fedora raking tall grass in a rural field. He works methodically in front of a modest white house, with a vintage wood-paneled station wagon parked nearby. The footage shows natural film grain, scratches, and slight fading, characteristic of mid-century home movies. The scene evokes a quiet, everyday moment from post-war America, with the man’s focused labor set against a backdrop of open land and simple architecture.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s American home-movie requests needing a rural domestic labor insert, postwar yard work cutaway, or modest Midwestern household exterior.
Period detail: The man’s fedora, dark work clothes, small white house, and rounded station wagon may show late-1940s rural or small-town domestic life in Illinois.
Home-movie behavior: The footage has unstaged value as the man works through tall grass with a rake while the camera observes a quiet everyday household task.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a man with a hat, long-handled rake, tall grass, white house, parked wood-sided station wagon, open land, and film frame edges.
Film character: The 8mm color scan carries soft focus, pale exposure, visible grain, scratches, and contact-sheet frame boundaries that preserve its home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief cutaway for domestic chores, rural upkeep, postwar memory, or a transition between house exterior and family life material.
Historical context: The scene suggests ordinary outdoor maintenance around a modest dwelling, with clothing, vehicle shape, and open landscape providing period context without identifying the household.
Research note: A visible adult face and residential exterior may require likeness and property review, while copyright and privacy clearance should be assessed separately from the scan metadata.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1947 Illinois 8mm home movie, man raking grass, rural house exterior, vintage station wagon, and 1940s domestic chore footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other Illinois 1947 home movies, then broader 1940s rural chores, house exteriors, or vintage car cutaways.
