A House On The Pier With A Classic Car — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1948, this vintage home movie captures a quiet waterfront scene on Long Island, New York. The footage shows a small white house with a green roof perched on a wooden pier, surrounded by calm blue water. A small boat rests on the dock, and white life preservers hang from the pilings. A classic black car drives along the pier, and the distant shoreline is visible under a clear sky. The film exhibits natural grain, slight color fading, and the characteristic look of a mid-century home movie, evoking a nostalgic, peaceful coastal moment.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s Long Island waterfront, pier, dock, and classic-car cutaways in documentary, museum, education, or period-context edits.
Period detail: Visible clues include a wooden pier with life rings, a small waterfront structure, older automobiles, and mid-century home-movie color that support the 1948 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged home-movie viewpoint, observing a quiet pier and passing car from a nearby waterfront position rather than a formal travel or news setup.
What appears in frame: Frames show a white pier building with green roof, dock pilings, hanging life preservers, calm water, a small boat, a pole or signpost, distant shoreline, and dark cars.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows soft focus, visible grain, mild color shift, gate edges, and contact-sheet framing that give the scene authentic physical-film texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief establishing insert, coastal transition, period transportation cutaway, or reflective memory beat for postwar waterfront life.
Historical context: The footage visually documents a small Long Island pier setting with cars and water access, while avoiding claims about the specific business, town, or event shown.
Research note: No people are visible, but the pier structure, vehicles, and possible marks or signage should be reviewed separately for copyright, trademark, and property concerns.
Research search match: Search matches include 1948 Long Island 8mm home movie pier, vintage waterfront dock with classic car, and 1940s New York coastal home-movie footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then with 1948 Long Island waterfront material, then with 1940s coastal travel, docks, cars, and home movies.
