Camden New Jersey USA-1964: Woman Shooting Rifle With Man Watching

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fits requests for 1960s American suburban domestic life or recreational firearm use; useful as a period insert or social history cutaway in documentary and educational productions.

Period detail

Summer casual dress — woman in dark sleeveless top and white shorts, man in light shirt and dark shorts — and a suburban backyard with brick outbuilding are consistent with early-to-mid 1960s.

Home-movie behavior

The casual backyard setting and unhurried pacing suggest candid family filming of an ordinary recreational afternoon rather than a staged or performed event.

What appears in frame

Woman aiming a long rifle; man in light blue shirt standing close; green lawn; brick outbuilding with window; small shed with colored roof; dense deciduous trees; utility pole.

Film character

Typical 8mm color fading toward cool-blue tones, visible film grain, dark sprocket-border vignetting at frame edges, and slightly unsteady handheld framing.

Edit role

Works as a period insert or domestic memory beat in a 1960s social history sequence; could cut as a leisure or gender-roles moment in a mid-century American documentary.

Historical context

Recreational backyard target shooting was a common family activity in mid-century suburban America; the informal setting suggests a private afternoon rather than a formal sporting event.

Research note

Two adult individuals are partially identifiable onscreen; likeness rights should be assessed before commercial use, and a property release for the residential structures may be advisable.
