Illinois USA-1962: Two Girls Playing On A Pier Near The Waters Of A Lake

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Solves editorial requests for 1960s American lakeside leisure footage — suits documentary segments on mid-century summer recreation, women's social life, or Midwest vacation culture.

Period detail

White rubber swim caps and dark one-piece swimsuits align with early-1960s women's swimwear conventions; the floating wooden dock style may reflect mid-century Midwest lake property infrastructure.

Home-movie behavior

The spontaneous hand-holding and playful swaying between the two subjects is the kind of unstaged social ease that only a family camera captures — unrepeatable on any production set.

What appears in frame

Two young women in dark one-piece swimsuits and white rubber swim caps stand and interact on a floating wooden dock, surrounded by calm lake water, a dense deciduous treeline, and pale blue sky.

Film character

The 8mm frame shows characteristically soft blue-shifted color, visible silver-halide grain, and gentle vignetting at the rounded frame edges — hallmarks of mid-century amateur film stock.

Edit role

Works as a nostalgic insert or memory-beat cutaway in a documentary or narrative about American summer leisure, women's friendship, or 1960s Midwest life.

Historical context

Rubber swim caps were standard women's swimwear in early 1960s America, common at lakes and pools; the floating dock setting suggests a private or semi-private lakeside property.

Research note

Two adults are visible and partially identifiable at mid-distance; no minors, logos, or audible music detected — standard editorial review of likeness rights is still advised before broadcast use.
