Illinois USA-1962: Two Women In Bathing Caps Happily Dancing On A Dock

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits 1960s American leisure documentary requests — summer recreation, women's social life, or mid-century lakeside lifestyle; usable as an insert or mood-establishing shot.

Period detail

White rubber bathing caps and dark one-piece swimsuits are consistent with early 1960s women's swimwear; white globe-style lamp posts in the mid-ground suggest a public park or resort lake.

Home-movie behavior

The women appear to perform playfully for the camera — swaying and dancing on the dock — in the self-conscious way typical of home-movie subjects who know they are being filmed.

What appears in frame

Two women in white swim caps and dark bathing suits stand and dance on a wooden dock over a lake, with a dense deciduous treeline, pale blue sky, and white globe lamp posts visible across the water.

Film character

A pronounced cool blue color cast, soft focus on figures at distance, visible grain, and circular gate vignetting are consistent with scanned 8mm home movie stock from the early 1960s.

Edit role

Works as a nostalgic insert or memory beat in documentary sequences covering mid-century American leisure, women's social life, or lakeside summer recreation.

Historical context

White rubber bathing caps were standard in American public pools and lakes through the late 1950s and 1960s; the lamp posts visible across the water suggest a public park or managed recreation area.

Research note

Two adult women are visible and faces may be identifiable in closer frames; editorial or commercial use should assess likeness rights — the footage is not cleared for all uses.
