Illinois USA-1962: Religious Mosaic Panels of Jesus Carrying Cross

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1960s religious, documentary, or cultural heritage productions seeking authentic mid-century footage of American church interior mosaic art.

Period detail

8mm film stock, color palette, and mosaic style are consistent with early-1960s American church interiors; title metadata dates the footage to 1962.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a visitor or parishioner perspective, with slight handheld drift suggesting an informal, unscripted record of a church interior rather than commissioned documentation.

What appears in frame

Two distinct mosaic panels show haloed religious figures in gold and white tesserae, a blue-robed figure, a large wooden cross, dark marble framing, and flanking light stone columns.

Film character

Visible 8mm grain, warm amber color shift, edge vignetting, and gentle camera movement give the footage an intimate archival texture characteristic of home-movie film stocks of the era.

Edit role

Works as a contemplative cutaway or devotional insert within religious, cultural-history, or documentary sequences, and as a transitional element between church exterior and interior settings.

Historical context

Mosaic Stations of the Cross panels were common mid-century features in American Catholic churches; the tessera style and dark marble framing reflect decorative programs typical of post-war church construction.

Research note

Depicted figures are religious artworks, not living individuals, so no personal likeness rights apply; however, copyright in the mosaic artwork may rest with the artist or institution — verify commissioning church and artist before editorial publication.
