Illinois USA-1962: Closeup Of Jesus Carrying The Cross In Religious Mosaic

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills a 1960s American church footage brief for documentary or educational use; suitable for segments on mid-century Catholic religious art, Stations of the Cross, or parish life.

Period detail

Warm color palette, 8mm stock rendering, and mosaic panel style are consistent with mid-century American Catholic church decor, supporting the 1962 metadata date.

Home-movie behavior

A parishioner or visitor held the camera close to document the mosaic panel deliberately, prioritizing the artwork over the broader church interior.

What appears in frame

Two robed mosaic figures, large diagonal wooden cross, circular gold halo, gold tessera tile ground, dark marble border, cream stone block wall, and vertical stone pilasters.

Film character

8mm color stock from 1962 shows warm tonal shift, mild grain, and edge softness that lend the mosaic an intimate period texture distinct from modern photographic reproduction.

Edit role

Works as a devotional cutaway or thematic insert in segments on Catholic ritual, church architecture, or mid-century American religious culture.

Historical context

The mosaic's Stations of the Cross theme and tilework style reflect decorative programs common in American Catholic parishes built or renovated in the postwar decades.

Research note

No identifiable living persons appear; all figures are mosaic artwork — verify the artwork's copyright status independently, as church-commissioned mosaics may carry separate intellectual property.
