Lynbrook New York-1976: People Swimming Vigorously in a Backyard Pool

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Mid-1970s suburban backyard pool footage on 8mm; suits documentary B-roll, American summer montages, and nostalgia sequences needing authentic period texture.

Period detail

The orange tubular metal pool ladder is consistent with residential pool hardware common to the 1970s; color fading and film grain suggest mid-decade 8mm consumer stock.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from the pool deck by an unseen family member, capturing casual swimming with no evident awareness of or performance for the camera.

What appears in frame

Blue-grey outdoor pool water, prominent orange tubular entry ladder, active freestyle swimmer with visible splashing, second swimmer in background, green deciduous treeline, grassy pool surround, 8mm frame borders.

Film character

Characteristic 8mm grain and color desaturation lend the water a steel-blue cast; black frame borders and mild vignetting at the edges give authentic archival texture.

Edit role

Functions well as an insert or memory-beat cutaway in a domestic suburban nostalgia sequence; the view-from-behind angle in the later frames reads as an intimate observational shot.

Historical context

Backyard pools became a common feature of American suburban homes during the postwar boom; this footage may reflect peak domestic leisure culture in Long Island's Nassau County in the mid-1970s.

Research note

At least two people are visible; faces are largely obscured by motion and water but may be partially identifiable — talent clearance should be evaluated before any commercial use.
