Youth Swimmers Compete In Pool — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1953, this vintage home movie captures youth swimmers in action at a pool in Yonkers, New York. The footage shows several children performing freestyle strokes, their arms cutting through the blue water as they compete. The grainy, slightly faded color and visible film scratches lend an authentic retro feel. The swimmer in the foreground wears a dark cap and swimsuit, while others are visible in the background. A pool ladder appears in one frame, confirming the setting. This archival clip offers a nostalgic glimpse into mid-century recreational sports and childhood activity.

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1950s archival requests needing youth swimming, pool recreation, or school-age sports activity in Yonkers, New York.
Period detail: The 8mm color look, swim caps, simple pool setting, and 1953 metadata place the scene in mid-century recreational sports footage.
Home-movie behavior: The swimmers appear filmed from the poolside as they move through short race-like moments rather than posing for the camera.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include blue pool water, swimmers in lanes or loose formation, swim caps, splashing arms, contact-sheet borders, and handheld framing.
Film character: The footage has saturated blue water, soft focus, grain, scratches, gate shadows, and slight exposure variation typical of scanned 8mm home movies.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief sports insert, childhood recreation cutaway, pool transition, or memory beat in a mid-century sequence.
Historical context: The clip shows organized or informal swimming activity as part of everyday youth recreation in a suburban New York pool setting.
Research note: People are visible, so likeness review may be needed; no logos are apparent, and copyright status should be assessed separately from privacy or publicity rights.

Archive pairing path: Pair first with same-reel pool or award scenes, then Yonkers 1953 material, then broader 1950s youth sports and recreation footage.
