People Relaxing By A Pool In Their Backyard — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1953, this vintage home movie captures a sun-drenched backyard scene in New Mexico. A rectangular swimming pool reflects the sky, surrounded by a concrete deck and lush green lawn. People relax on yellow and white patterned lounge chairs under a large blue patio umbrella, with a distinctive purple trash can visible nearby. The setting features a stucco house with a red tile roof and manicured shrubbery, evoking a classic mid-century American suburban lifestyle. The footage displays natural film grain and warm color tones characteristic of 8mm home movies from the era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1950s 8mm backyard pool footage for documentary or educational edits needing mid-century domestic leisure in the American Southwest.
Period detail: The stucco house, red tile roof, patterned metal lounge chairs, bright patio umbrella and maintained lawn may show mid-century suburban outdoor living.
Home-movie behavior: The clip preserves an unstaged home-movie view of people quietly reclining by a backyard pool rather than performing for the camera.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a rectangular pool, concrete deck, green lawn, blue patio umbrella, yellow patterned lounge chairs, purple trash cans, shrubs and a stucco house.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows soft focus, warm color, visible grain, slight exposure variation and handheld framing that give it physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a short cutaway, memory beat or transitional insert for family leisure, summer heat or 1950s suburban life.
Historical context: The scene offers visual context for private outdoor recreation and domestic comfort in a New Mexico backyard setting without documenting a public event.
Research note: People and possible branded objects are visible, so likeness, trademark and property considerations should be reviewed separately from copyright status.
Research search match: Likely matches searches for 1950s 8mm backyard pool footage, New Mexico home movie, mid-century patio leisure and vintage family relaxation.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1953 New Mexico home movies, then broader 1950s backyard, pool or family leisure scenes.
