Washington DC USA-1952: View Of American Flag Flying On Top Of White House With Fountains

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills 1950s Washington DC landmark requests for documentary, civics, or political-history productions seeking an era-authentic tourist-eye view of the White House north lawn.

Period detail

North Portico colonnade, the early 1950s north-lawn fountain arrangement, and 8mm film stock are consistent with the 1952 metadata date; flag at full staff under overcast sky.

Home-movie behavior

Framed from a public tourist vantage on the north grounds, the handheld perspective and slight drift between takes give this the candid, unhurried quality of a visitor documenting a landmark.

What appears in frame

White House North Portico with neoclassical columns, north lawn fountains in full spray, American flag on roof flagpole, manicured lawn, low hedges, flanking trees, overcast sky, and small distant figures on the grounds.

Film character

Classic 8mm gate vignetting darkens frame edges throughout; a blue-grey color cast and mild grain shift between frames, lending period texture without obscuring architectural detail.

Edit role

Serves as an establishing wide shot or nostalgic cutaway in 1950s Washington DC sequences, or as a transitional insert bracketing political-history or civics documentary segments.

Historical context

The North Lawn fountains and flag at full staff present a calm mid-century civic image of the White House, coinciding with either the final Truman or opening Eisenhower year depending on exact shoot date.

Research note

The White House is a public landmark and no architectural copyright applies, but small figures visible on the grounds in later frames should be assessed for identifiability before any non-editorial use.
