Woman In A Grass Skirt And Lei Dances The Hula In — Clip Details

A grainy, black-and-white 8mm home movie from 1975 captures a woman in a grass skirt and lei performing the hula dance in San Francisco, California. The footage shows her in a circular motion, her movements slightly blurred by the film's motion and low light. The image is dark and heavily textured with film grain, scratches, and dust, typical of vintage Super 8 home recordings. Her silhouette is faintly visible against a dark background, emphasizing the nostalgic, archival quality of the clip.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: This clip supports 1970s archival requests for home-movie footage of a costumed hula-style dance performance in San Francisco for documentary or memory-sequence use.
Period detail: The footage may show 1970s leisure or performance culture through the grass skirt, lei-like costume, and low-light home-movie recording style noted in the clip metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the informal observer perspective, with a single dancer turning and gesturing for a small-camera recording rather than a staged broadcast view.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a faint standing dancer, grass skirt shape, upper-body gestures, dark background, heavy grain, frame edges, dust specks, and soft motion blur.
Film character: The 8mm black-and-white scan has dense grain, low exposure, soft focus, gate edges, and surface marks that read as physical-film archival texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief insert, transition, or memory beat for 1970s performance, travel, nightlife, or home-movie atmosphere.
Historical context: The scene suggests a private or informal recording of a hula-inspired performance, but the frames do not identify the venue, audience, or event.
Research note: A performer is visible, so likeness review may be needed; copyright, music, location, and property issues should be assessed separately from the visual scan.
Research search match: Likely researcher matches include 1970s San Francisco home movie hula dancer, 8mm grass skirt performance, vintage lei dance footage, and black-and-white home movie dancer.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1975 San Francisco material, then related home-movie dance, costume, tourism, or Hawaiian-themed performance footage.
