Nebraska USA-1956: A Red Car And Yellow Bus Parked Outside Of A Family Home In

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves mid-century Americana documentary needs; establishes 1950s suburban domestic life through a period American convertible parked in a residential driveway.

Period detail

The red convertible's tail fin styling, chrome tail lights, and trunk script badge are consistent with a mid-1950s American automobile; the white clapboard garage and mature housing stock reinforce the era.

Home-movie behavior

The camera lingers on the prized family car in the driveway — a casual but proud domestic record of ownership and neighborhood pride characteristic of amateur 8mm filmmaking.

What appears in frame

Red American convertible with raised black soft top, chrome tail lights, trunk script nameplate, white accent stripe, white clapboard garage, panel garage door, two-story residential houses, and bare deciduous trees.

Film character

Saturated 8mm color stock with moderate grain and a slight magenta shift in the vehicle tones; stable framing with natural vignetting at the film gate edges gives it an intimate home-movie texture.

Edit role

Works as a suburban-life establishing insert or period vehicle cutaway; the rear-of-car close-up in frame 1 provides a clean mid-decade automobile detail shot.

Historical context

Mid-1950s postwar suburban expansion brought new homes and multi-car driveways; a polished convertible parked out front was a common visual emblem of American middle-class aspiration in this period.

Research note

A legible manufacturer script nameplate appears on the vehicle rear — verify brand trademark requirements for commercial use; residential property and vehicle may be identifiable; no individual releases confirmed.
