Idaho USA-1955: Two Men Playing Ring Ball in Park

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits documentary or educational productions needing authentic mid-1950s American leisure footage — casual outdoor park recreation in a small-town suburban setting.

Period detail

Vintage automobiles in the background appear consistent with mid-1950s American styling; high-waisted dark trousers and shirtless summer dress align with the era.

Home-movie behavior

Wide framing and unhurried camera placement suggest an amateur filmer capturing a familiar neighborhood park game from a relaxed, stationary vantage point.

What appears in frame

Two men on a grassy lawn — one shirtless in dark trousers — vintage automobiles at the tree line, tall mature deciduous trees, sandy game area with stakes, and a residential structure in the distance.

Film character

Characteristic 8mm grain, warm color saturation, and soft focus in the wide shots give an intimate home-movie texture, with pronounced motion blur in the later panning frames.

Edit role

Works as an establishing insert or nostalgic cutaway within a 1950s Americana sequence, or as a memory-beat transition between leisure and community life scenes.

Historical context

Ring ball on stakes was a common American backyard and park game in mid-century; the suburban tree-lined setting and parked cars reflect postwar leisure culture.
