Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1960s Michigan recreation requests needing authentic home-movie footage of water skiing on an inland lake.
Period detail: The 8mm frame borders, soft color, swimwear silhouette, and motorboat-towed skiing may show early-1960s leisure footage consistent with the 1961 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The camera follows an adult skier from a family-film distance, valuing the casual summer activity more than polished sports coverage.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a single water skier, lake surface, white spray, tow rope direction, wooded shoreline, distant buoy, and dark film-frame edges.
Film character: The clip has a grainy 8mm look with soft focus, uneven exposure, handheld framing, and dark contact-sheet borders that preserve its home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short insert, recreational cutaway, summer memory beat, or transition within midcentury family-life sequences.
Historical context: The footage documents ordinary lake leisure and amateur filming practices without identifying the skier, boat, lake, or any specific public event.
Research note: A person is visible at a distance, so likeness review may still be needed even though no logos, music, or private property are apparent in the frames.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1961 Michigan 8mm water skiing, 1960s lake recreation home movie, vintage man water skiing, and summer family film footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other shots from the same reel, then Michigan or 1961 lake material, then broader 1960s boating and summer recreation footage.
