A Girl Swimming In Blue Water — Clip Details

A vintage 8mm home movie clip from 1961 showing a young girl swimming in calm blue water, likely a lake or coastal area in Michigan. The footage has a distinct grainy texture and warm color palette typical of Super 8 film, with the swimmer visible from a distance as she moves through the water. The scene is framed by dark borders, suggesting it was shot through a window or viewed on an old projector. The overall mood is nostalgic and serene, capturing a moment of simple summer recreation.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports requests for early 1960s Michigan home-movie footage of summer swimming, lake recreation, or quiet family leisure for documentary inserts and memory sequences.
Period detail: The 8mm color look, distant framing, and metadata-supported 1961 date place the scene in early 1960s amateur home-movie coverage, with few visible location-specific clues beyond open blue water.
Home-movie behavior: The clip preserves an unstaged recreational moment as a swimmer moves through calm water while the camera observes from a distance rather than posing the subject.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include blue rippling water, a distant swimmer, pale shoreline or water edge, dark film-frame borders, soft focus, and occasional bright specks on the water.
Film character: The footage carries dense 8mm grain, soft telephoto-like detail, warm color drift, and dark gate or window edges that give the brief swim a physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a short cutaway, summer memory beat, lake recreation insert, or quiet transition within sequences about family leisure or Midwestern vacation footage.
Historical context: The scene reflects casual outdoor swimming captured by an amateur camera, offering social context for everyday recreation without showing enough detail to identify the location or occasion.
Research note: People are visible at a distance, so likeness review may still be needed even though no logos, brands, private property, or audible music are indicated in the supplied metadata.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1961 Michigan 8mm swimming footage, vintage lake swimmer home movie, blue water recreation clip, and early 1960s family vacation film.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1961 Michigan water or vacation scenes, then broader vintage swimming and summer recreation footage.
