Man Slalom Skiing Behind Boat On Lake With — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1961 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, showing a man water skiing behind a motorboat on a lake. The skier, wearing swim trunks and a life vest, cuts through the water with a slalom-style turn, creating a dramatic spray. The grainy, slightly faded color and film edge borders give the clip authentic retro charm. The boat is visible in the background, pulling the skier across the calm lake under bright daylight. This nostalgic archival footage captures classic mid-century American summer recreation.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for archival requests needing early 1960s American home-movie footage of summer lake recreation, water skiing, or mid-century leisure for documentary, educational, or memory-sequence use.
Period detail: The 8mm color home-movie texture, simple swimwear, life vest, small motorboat, and open lake setting support a 1961 recreational scene in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area as provided by the metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has unstaged home-movie value in its direct filming of a skier being pulled behind a boat, with the camera tracking the action rather than arranging a formal sports shot.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include an adult male water skier, a single slalom-style ski, water spray, lake surface, a towing boat in the background, dark film borders, and a partial foreground boat shape in the last frame.
Film character: The footage carries soft 8mm color, visible grain, slight fading, gate edges, dust specks, and mild handheld instability that read as authentic physical-film texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short insert, cutaway, transition, or memory beat for mid-century vacation, lake recreation, boating, or water-sports sequences.
Historical context: The scene reflects a casual postwar American leisure activity on an inland lake, showing water skiing as family-filmed recreation rather than a formal competition.
Research note: An adult person is visible but not clearly identifiable in the soft frames, so likeness review may still be needed while no logos, music, private property, or children are apparent from the provided metadata and stills.
Research search match: Likely researcher matches include 1961 8mm water skiing home movie, Grand Rapids Michigan lake recreation, vintage slalom skier behind boat, and mid-century American summer footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other footage from the same reel, then with 1961 Grand Rapids or Michigan lake material, and then with broader boating, water sports, vacation, or summer recreation clips.
