Water Skier Chased By Motorboat On Lake — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1961 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, showing a person water-skiing on a lake while being chased by a motorboat. The skier glides across the water, leaving a white wake, as the boat speeds nearby. The scene is framed by a dark border typical of old film, with a tree-lined horizon in the background under an overcast sky. The grainy, slightly faded color palette and motion blur capture the authentic feel of a classic 1960s family recreation moment.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1960s Midwest recreation requests needing real 8mm home-movie footage of water-skiing, motorboating, lake leisure, or family vacation activity.
Period detail: The faded color, 8mm frame edges, distant motorboat, water skier, and tree-lined lake may show early 1960s recreational boating near Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged spectator viewpoint, watching a skier and boat pass across the lake from shore or another fixed lakeside position.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a distant water skier, small motorboat, white wakes, broad lake surface, dark film gate edges, wooded shoreline, and overcast sky.
Film character: Soft focus, handheld framing, gate shadows, muted color, grain, and brief motion blur give the footage a scanned 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a short insert, leisure cutaway, memory beat, or transition within sequences about summer recreation, Michigan lakes, or 1960s home movies.
Historical context: The scene documents casual water-sports leisure on a wooded lake, with the human subject small in frame and the activity emphasized over personal identity.
Research note: A person is visible at distance, so likeness review may still be needed; no logos, music, or private property are apparent, and copyright clearance is separate.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1961 Grand Rapids 8mm water skiing, vintage Michigan lake recreation, home movie motorboat wake, and 1960s family vacation footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1961 Grand Rapids lake footage, then broader Midwest boating or water-skiing home movies.
