Dark Calm Waters Moonlight Sail Boats Floating On — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1973 showing calm, dark waters under a moonlit sky. Several sailboats float peacefully in a marina, their masts silhouetted against the deep blue twilight. The scene transitions to a wide view of the open water with distant mountains on the horizon. A single yellow buoy appears in the distance, adding a touch of color to the serene, grainy film. The footage captures a quiet, nostalgic evening on the water with authentic Super 8 film grain and color shifts.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1970s 8mm waterfront footage for productions needing a quiet dusk or night water insert connected to Salt Lake City travel, boating, or reflective landscape sequences.
Period detail: The visible period clues are limited to the 8mm color home-movie texture and the supplied 1973 metadata, while the frames themselves show dark open water, a low horizon, and distant landforms without identifiable landmarks.
Home-movie behavior: The clip carries a visitor-shot home-movie perspective, lingering on calm water and horizon rather than staged action or identifiable people.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include dark rippled water, a blue twilight sky, a low distant horizon, faint mountain or shoreline silhouettes, a small yellow buoy, and heavy film-frame borders from the scan.
Film character: The footage has pronounced 8mm grain, blue-purple color shift, soft exposure, gate edges, dust specks, and slight handheld steadiness that give it authentic archival texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a quiet cutaway, transitional water view, contemplative memory beat, or atmospheric insert between more specific boating or Salt Lake City material.
Historical context: The clip visually documents recreational waterfront looking conditions in a 1970s home-movie context without showing identifiable people, boats, buildings, or public events in these frames.
Research note: No people, faces, logos, brands, or private property are visible in the supplied frames, but copyright status and any broader reel context should still be reviewed separately from likeness or property concerns.
Research search match: Useful researcher searches include 1973 8mm Salt Lake City water footage, 1970s Utah twilight lake view, home movie calm dark water, and vintage Super 8 buoy horizon shot.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1973 Salt Lake City or Utah waterfront footage, then broader 1970s calm water, marina, boating, or mountain-horizon material.
