Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1949 8mm home-movie pool footage from Seaside, New Jersey, suited to documentary or museum sequences about mid-century American summer leisure and resort recreation.
Period detail: The visible swim cap, dark one-piece swimsuit, outdoor pool setting, and metadata-supported 1949 date place the clip within late-1940s seaside leisure, though no landmark or resort name is identifiable in the frames.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has unstaged home-movie value in the casual way swimmers move through the pool while another person watches from the edge or shallow water.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include turquoise pool water, a freestyle swimmer, splashing arms, a woman in a white swim cap, a dark swimsuit, pool-edge color, and soft background water movement.
Film character: The 8mm image carries dense grain, muted color, mild exposure shifts, handheld framing, and motion blur that read as physical-film texture from a home-movie source.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief summer insert, memory beat, or cutaway between broader scenes of New Jersey seaside travel and mid-century family recreation.
Historical context: The footage visually reflects informal postwar American leisure around a swimming pool without identifying the people, facility, or occasion beyond the supplied Seaside, New Jersey metadata.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed, while no logos, audible music, or clearly identifiable private property appear in the provided frames; copyright and personality rights should be assessed separately.
Research search match: Useful researcher searches include 1940s 8mm swimming pool home movie, Seaside New Jersey 1949 pool footage, vintage American resort swimming, and mid-century summer leisure film.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then with other Seaside, New Jersey 1949 material, and then with broader 1940s swimming, resort, beach, or family-leisure footage.
