Vintage 1946 archival footage from Colombo, Ceylon, showing a dramatic scene of people attempting to bathe a large elephant in a river. Men in period attire use ropes to secure the animal, while onlookers watch with concern. The 8mm home movie captures the tension and effort involved in handling the wild animal, offering a rare glimpse into mid-20th century wildlife interaction and daily life in colonial Sri Lanka. The raw, unfiltered moment reflects the era's documentary style and cultural practices.
