A Vehicle Drives Down A Road In Front Of A Forest Of Oil... — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1937, this vintage home movie captures a sprawling oilfield in Long Beach, California. The frame reveals a dense forest of oil derricks rising against an overcast sky, with industrial structures and storage tanks in the foreground. A vehicle drives along a road in front of the oilfield, passing near small buildings and utility poles. The grainy black-and-white footage, with visible film scratches and a dark vignette, evokes a strong sense of mid-20th century industrial Americana and historical nostalgia.

Archive brief fit: 1930s Southern California industrial footage for productions needing an establishing cutaway of oil drilling, road traffic, and petroleum infrastructure.
Period detail: The 1937 8mm footage shows dense oil derricks, utility poles, low industrial buildings, storage tanks, and a passing vehicle near Long Beach.

What appears in frame: Visible elements include rows of oil derricks, a road, a small vehicle, utility poles, storage tanks, low buildings, open ground, and a palm tree.
Film character: The black-and-white 8mm scan carries soft focus, visible grain, gate edges, frame weave, scratches, and slight exposure variation typical of home-movie material.
Edit role: Editors can use it as a short industrial insert, location-establishing cutaway, transition beat, or visual reference for prewar California oil production.
Historical context: The view places oil extraction infrastructure close to roads, small buildings, utilities, and open lots in a Southern California urban-industrial setting.
Research note: No people, faces, logos, or audible music are indicated, but copyright, location, property, and industrial-site context should still be reviewed for the intended use.
