Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1960s archival requests needing amateur 8mm footage of a Southern California martial arts tournament or community athletic competition.
Period detail: The white gi, dark-suited referee, green mat, and soft indoor lighting may show a mid-1960s karate or martial arts competition setting.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a spectator-shot home-movie perspective, catching bows, grappling, and background onlookers without staged camera direction.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include white karate gi, belts, a green competition mat, a dark-suited referee, seated spectators, and adjacent competitors.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows visible grain, softened focus, mild color fading, and slight handheld instability consistent with home-movie filming.
Edit role: Editors could use this as a brief insert, cutaway, or memory beat for martial arts, youth and adult sports, or 1960s community recreation.
Historical context: The footage visually documents organized martial arts practice in a community tournament setting, with formal uniforms and an observing referee.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness and identification review may be needed in addition to any copyright assessment.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1960s 8mm karate tournament, San Gabriel martial arts home movie, vintage dojo competition, or referee on green mat.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other shots from the same reel, then San Gabriel or 1966 material, then broader vintage martial arts and tournament footage.
