Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports requests for 1960s amateur sports, martial arts practice, and Japanese judo competition footage for documentary, education, or period recreation use.
Period detail: White gi uniforms, a green competition mat, seated spectators, and formal referee placement may show a mid-1960s local martial arts tournament setting.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a spectator-shot viewpoint, holding on competitors as they face off and reposition before or during a judo exchange.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two martial artists in white gi, a green mat, a dark-clothed referee, seated participants, spectators, gym-like walls, and soft 8mm frame edges.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows visible grain, slight blur, uneven exposure, muted color, and handheld framing that give the scene its physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a brief insert, sports cutaway, transition into amateur competition, or memory beat within a 1960s community athletics sequence.
Historical context: The footage visually places martial arts practice in a community competition environment, with participants and onlookers gathered around a formal mat area.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed; no logos or private property are apparent, and copyright clearance is separate from depicted-person permissions.
Research search match: Useful for searches such as 1966 San Gabriel judo match, 8mm martial arts tournament, 1960s amateur sports footage, and vintage gi competition.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then other 1966 San Gabriel footage, then related 1960s amateur sports, martial arts, gymnasium, or community event scenes.
