Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s home-movie requests needing a brief military homecoming or returned-soldier moment for documentary, museum, education, or editorial edits.
Period detail: The uniform jacket, black-and-white 8mm texture, and metadata-supported 1946 New Cumberland setting place the clip in the immediate postwar 1940s period.
Home-movie behavior: The camera holds close and unevenly on the returned soldier, giving the scene an intimate family-filmed feel rather than a staged public ceremony.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a window or doorway edge, gravel ground, trouser legs, a dark military jacket, bright buttons, sleeve stripes, clasped hands, and a faint outdoor yard.
Film character: The footage has a soft, grainy 8mm look with high-contrast exposure, vignetting, and handheld framing that emphasize its physical home-movie origin.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short insert, memory beat, or transition into a family reunion, postwar return, or personal military archive sequence.
Historical context: The clip visually documents a uniformed service member in a domestic outdoor setting, reflecting a private family record of return rather than an official news scene.
Research note: People and military uniform details are visible, so likeness, service identification, and any separate copyright or property questions should be reviewed before use.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1946 8mm soldier homecoming, New Cumberland Pennsylvania home movie, returned serviceman family footage, and postwar uniformed man.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then other 1946 New Cumberland footage, then related homecoming, family reunion, military return, or postwar domestic scenes.
