Girl Looking Over Balcony — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1946, this vintage home movie captures a woman in a knee-length skirt and black shoes standing on a balcony in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. She turns away from the camera, gazing over a white Adirondack chair and a scenic view of houses and hills. The grainy black-and-white footage, with its characteristic film edges and soft focus, evokes a nostalgic mid-century American moment. Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s home-front or postwar American life edits needing a brief balcony portrait from real 8mm home-movie footage.
Period detail: The woman's floral hat, knee-length skirt, low shoes, balcony setting, and black-and-white 8mm texture support a mid-1940s domestic leisure reading.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the casual pose and small turn toward the camera, suggesting an unstaged family-film moment rather than a formal portrait.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a woman in a brimmed floral hat, light blouse, skirt, balcony railing, white outdoor chair, rooftops, trees, and distant hills.
Film character: The clip has soft focus, visible grain, uneven exposure, frame-edge shadows, and contact-print-like spacing that give it clear 8mm archival texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a quiet memory beat, personal-history cutaway, transition from interior to exterior, or brief 1940s domestic-life insert.
Historical context: The scene shows an adult woman on an outdoor balcony in New Cumberland, with residential rooftops and hills giving local domestic context.
Research note: A visible adult face and residential surroundings require likeness and property review separate from any copyright assessment of the film element.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1946 New Cumberland home movie, 1940s woman on balcony, vintage 8mm family footage, and mid-century Pennsylvania domestic scene.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1946 New Cumberland material, then balcony, family visit, and small-town residential views.
