New York-1973: A Young Man Smiling in a Swimming Pool

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

1970s New York home-movie swimming pool footage for documentary, museum, education, or commercial edits needing everyday summer recreation with visible people.

Period detail

The long hair, simple outdoor pool setting, lane floats, and 8mm color handling may show early 1970s leisure style without identifiable landmarks.

Home-movie behavior

The young man smiles toward the camera, gestures at the pool edge, and swims naturally, giving the clip an unstaged personal-memory quality.

What appears in frame

Visible details include a blue outdoor pool, white and blue lane floats, several swimmers, poolside legs, splashing water, and a young long-haired man near the camera.

Film character

The scan shows 8mm grain, saturated blue water, soft focus, slight exposure variation, and contact-sheet framing that preserve the texture of small-gauge home-movie film.

Edit role

An editor could use this as a short insert, summer recreation cutaway, transition between family-memory scenes, or a brief character beat around leisure and youth.

Historical context

The footage documents ordinary pool recreation in New York in 1973, with adults swimming casually rather than a formal sporting event or public ceremony.

Research note

People and recognizable faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed in addition to copyright and any venue or collection-rights checks.
