Kansas City Missouri-1965: Cortez Motel Sign and Building

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Useful for requests needing 1960s 8mm roadside motel footage, especially documentary inserts about travel, lodging, highways, or mid-century commercial signage.

Period detail

The motel sign advertising steam heat, air conditioning, and telephones may show mid-1960s roadside lodging amenities and graphic sign design.

Home-movie behavior

The short handheld view has a visitor-shot perspective, pausing on the motel sign before shifting to the modest building across the drive.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include the Cortez Motel sign, steam heat and air-conditioned text, telephone wording, trees, lawn, motel building, white roof, and parked vehicle.

Film character

The footage has soft 8mm grain, warm color shift, slight exposure variation, and handheld framing that retain the texture of a scanned home movie reel.

Edit role

An editor could use it as a brief establishing insert, travel transition, roadside cutaway, or memory beat for 1960s motel culture.

Historical context

The clip visually situates lodging along a car-travel corridor, with signage emphasizing comfort features important to motel guests of the period.

Research note

The Cortez Motel name and sign text are visible, so trademark, copyright, and property-identification questions should be reviewed separately from footage licensing.
