Man Pumping Water From Well Near Rural House — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1947, this vintage home movie captures a man in a white shirt and dark pants pumping water from a hand-operated well outside a rural house in Illinois. The scene unfolds in a grassy field under an overcast sky, with a woman in a floral dress partially visible in the foreground. The footage shows the man operating the lever, bending to draw water, and the film exhibits classic Super 8 characteristics: soft focus, faded colors, and visible scratches. This authentic slice of mid-century American life offers nostalgic, archival footage for documentaries, historical content, or retro-themed projects.

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s rural Midwest domestic-life edits needing hand-pumped water, farm-adjacent housing, or everyday home-movie detail.
Period detail: The hand-operated well pump, simple rural house, open grass, and clothing may show mid-century Illinois domestic surroundings.
Home-movie behavior: The scene has an unstaged home-movie quality, with a man working the pump while another adult passes partly through the foreground.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a man at a hand pump, pale rural building wall, tall grass, distant utility poles, open fields, and a partial foreground figure.
Film character: The 8mm image has soft focus, faded color, visible scratches, gate edges, and uneven exposure that read as physical home-movie texture.

Historical context: The footage visually situates water collection beside a rural house, suggesting everyday domestic routines outside an urban setting.
Research note: People are visible and likeness review may be needed; copyright, location, and property considerations should be assessed separately.
