Driving By A Space Station — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1947, this vintage home movie captures a view through a window of a large fountain in a park in Illinois. The footage shows a wide, open green space with a prominent ornate fountain in the distance, surrounded by trees and pathways. A few people are visible walking in the background. The image is soft-focused with natural film grain, scratches, and dust, characteristic of Super 8 home movie footage from the era. The scene evokes a quiet, nostalgic atmosphere of a mid-century American park.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1940s Illinois 8mm home-movie park footage suited for documentary cutaways, memory sequences, or mid-century public-space inserts.
Period detail: The frames may show a mid-century landscaped park with a broad lawn, paths, distant walkers, and an ornate fountain seen from behind a window or vehicle frame.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a visitor-shot perspective, observing the park and fountain casually from a moving or partially obstructed viewpoint rather than a staged setup.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include dark window dividers, open grass, pale walkways, clustered trees, a distant fountain, and a few small figures crossing the park.
Film character: Soft focus, uneven exposure, visible dust, scratches, and 8mm grain give the footage a physical home-movie texture from the original film scan.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief establishing insert, transitional park view, travel-memory beat, or archival texture between stronger location shots.
Historical context: The scene offers visual context for leisure space and public landscaping in postwar-era Illinois without identifying the exact park or fountain from the frames alone.
Research note: People are visible at a distance, so likeness review may still apply even though no logos or private property are apparent; copyright clearance is separate.
Research search match: Useful searches include 1940s Illinois park home movie, 8mm fountain in park, vintage public garden footage, and driving past park window view.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then with Illinois 1947 park footage, then with broader themes of mid-century travel, fountains, and public landscapes.
