Smiling Man In A Bathing Suit Sailing On A Large Lake — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1939, this vintage home movie captures a man in a bathing suit enjoying a sunny day on Long Lake, Canada. The black-and-white footage shows him in a small boat, first looking down thoughtfully, then turning to smile and laugh at the camera. The lake stretches wide with a tree-lined shore in the distance, and the grainy, nostalgic quality of the Super 8 film adds to its authentic mid-century charm. This archival clip evokes classic vintage and personal memories of summer recreation.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1930s home-movie requests needing Canadian lake recreation, small-boat leisure, or a personal summer moment for documentary and educational edits.
Period detail: The swimwear, small open boat, black-and-white 8mm look, and tree-lined lake setting may show late-1930s recreational travel as supported by the clip metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The man looks down in the boat, then turns toward the camera with an informal smile and laugh, giving the scene a candid family-film quality.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a broad lake surface, distant wooded shoreline, small boats, a shirtless man in swim trunks, bright daylight, and soft frame-edge vignetting.
Film character: The footage has visible 8mm grain, mild exposure variation, handheld framing, and dark gate edges that support its physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short insert, memory beat, or transition for summer recreation, lake holidays, boating, or informal prewar leisure.
Historical context: The clip shows personal outdoor recreation on a Canadian lake, emphasizing everyday leisure rather than a documented public event or identifiable landmark.
Research note: A visible adult face and likeness may require review for commercial use; copyright, privacy, and location claims should be assessed separately.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1930s 8mm Canada lake footage, Long Lake home movie, vintage boating recreation, and man smiling in bathing suit on lake.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other footage from the same reel, then with Long Lake or 1939 Canada material, then with broader vintage lake recreation and boating scenes.
