Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1930s Canadian home-movie requests needing quiet outdoor leisure, swimming, summer recreation, or non-urban waterside activity.
Period detail: The black-and-white 8mm footage and simple swim cap may show late-1930s amateur filming of a natural lake or river setting, consistent with the supplied 1939 Long Lake metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The swimmer is filmed candidly from shore as they move through the water, giving the scene an unstaged family-vacation or local-recreation quality.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a swimmer in a light cap, rippled water, splashes, rocky shoreline, low vegetation, and dark 8mm frame edges.
Film character: Soft focus, visible grain, uneven exposure, and gate-edge shadows give the clip a physical 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a brief cutaway, memory beat, or transitional insert for summer, lakeside recreation, or family holiday sequences.
Historical context: The clip shows ordinary outdoor swimming in a natural waterside setting, offering social texture around leisure without identifying the swimmer or exact site features.
Research note: A person is visible but not clearly identifiable; copyright, likeness, and location considerations should be reviewed separately before reuse.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1939 Canada 8mm swimming, Long Lake home movie, 1930s swimmer in river, vintage lake recreation, and black-and-white summer footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then other Long Lake Canada 1939 footage, then broader 1930s Canadian summer recreation or swimming scenes.
