A Boy And A Girl In The Woods Near A Lake — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1939, this vintage home movie captures a young girl in a wide-brimmed hat and patterned dress standing near a tree, while a boy in a sweater and dark pants leans against another tree nearby. The scene unfolds in a wooded area beside a calm body of water, likely Clear Lake, California, with bare branches and soft natural light suggesting early spring or late autumn. The grainy black-and-white footage, with visible film scratches and soft focus, evokes a quiet, nostalgic moment of childhood in the 1930s. The subjects appear to be posing or interacting casually, offering a candid glimpse into mid-century family life and outdoor recreation.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1930s 8mm home-movie footage for productions needing a quiet outdoor childhood or lakeside family-life insert from Clear Lake, California.
Period detail: The clothing, wide-brimmed hat, monochrome 8mm look, and posed woodland setting may show late-1930s leisure dress and family filming habits.
Home-movie behavior: Two young people appear to pause for the camera beside trees near the water, giving the clip a casual family-album quality rather than a staged performance.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a girl in a brimmed hat, a patterned dress, a boy leaning by a tree, trunks, shrubs, bare branches, and a pale lake beyond.
Film character: The clip has soft black-and-white 8mm texture, visible grain, slight blur, frame-edge darkness, and minor scratches consistent with scanned home-movie film.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a memory beat, lakeside childhood cutaway, or gentle transition within a sequence about family recreation or rural California life.
Historical context: The scene offers visual context for informal outdoor recreation, with dressed-up children or teens filmed near a wooded lakeshore in the late 1930s.
Research note: People are visible and faces are partly obscured, so likeness review may be needed; no logos or obvious private property are visible, and copyright status is separate.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1939 Clear Lake home movie, 1930s 8mm children by lake, vintage California woods footage, and black-and-white family film.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with neighboring shots from the same reel, then with other 1939 Clear Lake footage, then with 1930s family, lakeside, or outdoor recreation material.
